Computer Clubhouse Network |
|
The Computer Clubhouse, a worldwide network of after-school learning centers, focuses on youth (ages 10-16) from underserved communities who would not otherwise have access to technological tools and activities. Through projects related to their own interests, Clubhouse members design their own animations, robots, videogames, interactive newsletters, music, simulations, and multimedia presentations. Inner-city youth who come to the Clubhouse gain fluency with new technologies and become producers (not just consumers) of new computational media. Created collaboratively by the Computer Museum and the MIT Media Lab, the Clubhouse continues to be supported by members of the Lifelong Kindergarten group. We mentor at various Boston-area locations, create and sustain new initiatives, advise network staff, and help recruit mentors from throughout MIT. We in turn benefit from the insights the Clubhouse provides, as it offers an informal testbed for our new technological tools and educational ideas. Clubhouse Links: |
