About 2005 Institute

Projects

Fellows continue to actively spread the themes and projects developed
at the IDEAS Institute in the following ways:

In San Diego, California Xavier Leonard runs outreach workshops for
staff from youth agencies across the city on how to use Scratch. He
is organizing the first “Scratch-Off” an exposition of Scratch
projects from around the city as a way of inspiring and bringing
youth together.

In Bangalore India, Shubha Rao is using digital photography and
Scratch to help street children tell their own stories and map their
neighborhoods. These stories have been critical in helping local
educators understand the needs of the children.

At the Jacob Riis Settlement House in Brooklyn, Jennifer Sly and
staff have over 100 children engaged in using Scratch. They are also
beginning a peer mentoring program to help younger children learn
Scratch.

In Johannsburg South Africa, Nhlanhla Mabaso (Lucky) is working
developing professional development workshops, modeled after the
IDEAS Institute, for staff at community technology centers.
